something new

Finally….I’ve had a sudden burst of inspiration. I love when this happens. It seems to be the best side of me and I don’t want to leave the studio when it happens. I have three shows just around the corner and I have been worried that I wouldn’t have anything new. As usual though, if I have a little pressure and a deadline approaching, I perform at my best. Here are the dates and locations of my upcoming shows:

I have a reception on February 4th from 10-noon at Ozark Natural Foods

March-April my work will be on display at NWACC (location TBA)

July is my large show with John L. Newman of The University of Arkansas at the Arts Center of the Ozarks.

inspiration. come….

A few days before 2012 I was feeling pumped about starting the new year and a new art series. I can’t for the life of me put my finger on where to start. I’m taking today to thumb through old photos, update my inspiration wall, flip through some art books, and dig for some much needed inspiration.

dirty, clean, and inspiring

an original drawing on a book page by Olivia Jeffries

talking at night by Megan Chapman

vacant home by Franca Garrels

Lodgepole, Whitebark, Aspen and Wolf Etching by Julia Lucey

Four artists whose work has recently inspired me to start a new print series. These women have incredible works of art that require a beautiful eye for design, intricate details, and color. I am constantly observing the works of others and plan to continue to show you the works of the artists that inspire me.

oh jennifer davis….

obviously couldnt choose just one to share. i originally discovered jennifer davis‘ work at tiny showcase. her color palette and use of negative spaces are only two reasons i love her work. incredibly inspiring.

i found this while flipping through a book at the library yesterday. i find great comfort and inspiration in this watercolor by charles demuth from 1918.

wish i could say that i made this, but unfortunately jennifer davis beat me to it! this would have made my christmas wish list had it not already been sold out.

does it get any better than this? ive been burning to create this sort of performance/living art for a few months now. one of my plans is to place an empty strip of primed canvas in a highly trafficked area and let the canvas be created by the elements its surrounded by. essentially…leave a snail trail. i cannot express to you how much seeing Semâ Bekirovic‘s piece excites me!

clementine forest.

clementineforest

as i was eating my first clementine for the day (thanks to abby for my new addiction to them), i noticed the little trees that they contained within the peel. i foresee a softground etching in the future! these would make perfect little tree imprints onto a plate to etch….im excited with the ideas and possibilities that my little clementine forest contains!

sharing is caring

sharing is caring

{I have to thank charla for sendng me the link}

cody hoyt

here…i’ll share some inspiration with you

cody hoyt’s work is impeccable, and the processes behind them seem tedious….his dedication to a single piece of work can only raise your appreciation for what he’s doing here. most of his pieces involve many layers onto one work of art { including: silkscreen, etching, gouache, and lithography to name a few}.

awards

so, sweet Asja over at three little cameras, just gave me 2 blog awards. im flattered.

in the tradition of the awards (or so it seems), i would like to pass the awards along to my husband jonathan perrodin, abby, suzanne, and Ariel Aberg-Riger for the inspiration they offer me on a daily basis!

thank you asja!

encouragingwords_317

here are some of my favorite words of encouragement submitted to boooooooom’s free encouragement project. this is a project that they are doing in collaboration with design for mankind that is running through the end of december.  they plan on doing something with these words at the end of the year, but they have yet to say what that is.

if you want to submit your words of encouragement you still have time.  it can be a sneaky way to say the way you feel about someone/encourage them.  ive submitted mine…but you probably cant pick it out from the rest because theyre all so moooshy!

raine: {elephant cart}

here is one of raine’s (my 5 year old daughter’s) pieces that she recently completed on a piece of paper that i was hoping to use…{oh well}…she probably did more justice to it than i could have im sure. i couldnt be upset with her when i saw this precious elephant on a cart. raine creates artwork that is truly inspiring to me. im thinking of making her her own blog for christmas.

*artist note: she says that she made the trunk too long, hence the black mark on the end of it….that is NOT scribbling.
