the donkeys, elephants, and independents all showed up to celebrate Raine’s seventh year of life! Raine picked the theme of “president party” {not sure where it came from} for her birthday, it was fun making this happen for her.

indulging on my birthday.
heres to another year….
our friends jonathan and valerie griesse harvested a beautiful garden this past summer, included in that was a surplus of watermelon. we were lucky enough to share in the opening of the “best” one last week while raine partook in her own mini-melon.

its likely that she wont be able to cook any time soon, as most of our homes here dont have any electricity from the crazy ice storm we just had. i will be posting some images of this a little later as soon as we can make it back home (from jonathan’s parents) and get my camera equipment. His parents house regained electricity last night…but we were making it just fine without it because of their amazing wood stove!
we will be spending the entire day today back at our house making logs out of our beautiful trees that have all fallen apart on our lawn {and road}….
another new paper sketch. im loving doing simple line drawings lately. seems very gratifying.
Lately I have felt a twinge of Fall in the air….its probably just wishful thinking as its been nearly 90 degrees this entire week, but I’m still patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting my favorite season. This picture is of course from last year and seeing it only fed my Fall-infested thoughts. This picture reminds me of the great day that Jonathan and I had walking around Fayetteville. He wound up at the Dickson St. Book Store, while I stayed at the Walton Arts Center’s rose garden to catch up on Jonathan’s recommended reading of Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse-Five”….cant you just taste the peppermint and feel the cool breeze?

A large tart that Raine and I made for Jonathan’s birthday. Even though the crust turned out ridculously hard, it still tasted delicious!
