a january suprise!

My dear friend Natalie got me the 2012 leah duncan calendar! I’m elated! I’m so lucky to have such incredible people in my life that know how to tug on my heart strings.

something new

Finally….I’ve had a sudden burst of inspiration. I love when this happens. It seems to be the best side of me and I don’t want to leave the studio when it happens. I have three shows just around the corner and I have been worried that I wouldn’t have anything new. As usual though, if I have a little pressure and a deadline approaching, I perform at my best. Here are the dates and locations of my upcoming shows:

I have a reception on February 4th from 10-noon at Ozark Natural Foods

March-April my work will be on display at NWACC (location TBA)

July is my large show with John L. Newman of The University of Arkansas at the Arts Center of the Ozarks.

inspiration. come….

A few days before 2012 I was feeling pumped about starting the new year and a new art series. I can’t for the life of me put my finger on where to start. I’m taking today to thumb through old photos, update my inspiration wall, flip through some art books, and dig for some much needed inspiration.

inside

so pretty. and so much to learn from this little beauty! i’m very much looking forward to 2012 and all it has to offer.

dirty, clean, and inspiring

Lodgepole, Whitebark, Aspen and Wolf Etching by Julia Lucey

Four artists whose work has recently inspired me to start a new print series. These women have incredible works of art that require a beautiful eye for design, intricate details, and color. I am constantly observing the works of others and plan to continue to show you the works of the artists that inspire me.

questionable hen and chicks

I recently inherited this lovely, exotic plant from jonathan’s Nanny. I’m uncertain as to what it is exactly (please share if you do), but I do know that I love it. It brings me great joy with its wild whimsy. I thought you’d like it as well.

a studio tour

i know. this is getting ridiculous. i haven’t posted in SO long. but alas, i have come through with some refreshing new photos of my studio space. i’m always curious to see where other artists work. it’s a great way to know someone without ever truly knowing them. so. here i am.

morning walk with ezmah

ezmah and i went for a walk this morning.

{with my new Nikon D3100}

i think we’d both agree that fall is our favorite time of the year.

sewing on coffee stains {again}

i made this over the summer in search of finding something to do. i think it turned out nice.

colorado annual

we began our trip with a hike...

stayed in the sunshine...

swam in the stream...

made surprising discoveries....

explored abandoned mines....

took time to watercolor....

made plenty of camp fires near the cabin....

watched the wind blow....

checked out the area's public library...

discovered new species of plants....

roasted marshmallows......

and had our fair share of naps.

mary elkins

by far mary's most famous work to date. accepted into multiple well-known exhibitions. so beautiful.

"extension of a womans self." installation of slip cast crocheted houses;homes. {proud to own one of these!}

organizing imaginary space (in progress)

this is merely a "sketch" by mary for a larger more complete project. beautiful nonetheless.

crocheted brick wall (growing project)

chair made of movie tickets (current work in process)

meet my good friend mary. this girl is incredible. currently working on her masters at virginia commonwealth, she works primarily with clay and fibers {sometimes simultaneously}.

oh jennifer davis….

ability

almost

of two minds

tea for me

obviously couldnt choose just one to share. i originally discovered jennifer davis‘ work at tiny showcase. her color palette and use of negative spaces are only two reasons i love her work. incredibly inspiring.

“all things”

here it is! raine’s first published book, including 4 stories written and illustrated by herself.

this turned out fantastic. shes says that she would like to make more. so perhaps this is merely the beginning. im proud of her and inspired by her stamina…she worked diligently to make this book happen.

and of course, a special thank you to the papa that spent endless nights making this book happen!

growing circles

this light show appears on our wall every morning that the sun is shining. its lovely to watch them grow as jonathan and i did on this day.

in one day…

DSC03592

we began the day with painting halloween decor, then headed to fayetteville to meander on some beautiful trails, eventually making our way to the library (for the restroom?)...

we left the library and began to walk to ddp gallery....

we were briefly distracted by kathy p. thompson studio windows. they offered much inspiration and beauty!

after all of this, we returned home for a brief moment of rest, then went to jonathan’s parents house for a ridiculously long night of games, good food and crazy entertainment.
