from abby

from suzanne
our friends abby and suzanne came over the other night and gave us some pretty amazing gifts. 4 porcelain cups made by abby, as well as some fancy napkins with a great pattern on them. suzanne drew us a picture of a robot with some really nice words pasted on the bottom, as well as an amazing 3-plate intaglio etch she made….and a fantastic new garden book for me to draw in!
i love my friends.
recent photos taken of dasien being gentle with ezmah.

…and again….anther drawing done in my moleskine planner…

ill be honest…when i read this weeks topic, i had no idea what it meant. so after looking it up, i learned that it means in secrecy, or held in secret. so the first thing that came to mind was something scandalous. that then led to a drawing of innocent footsie between two eccentric lovers…

recently jonathan and i were cleaning out my old art room (at his parents house). and we came across some of our old drawings from our early art classes. i thought two of mine were interesting enough to post. so here they are…

jonathan had the ever-so-brilliant idea to wrap our gifts in newspaper this year!
but wait…we arent just wrapping them in newspaper…but beautiful newspaper.
the new york times newspaper to be exact. have you ever seen their images? usually stunning.
but wait….we arent just wrapping them in beautiful paper. we are wrapping them in beautiful images that give you a hint as to what’s inside of them!
this is so much fun, and not to mention eco-friendly. well, as eco-friendly as newsprint can be. atleast we arent wasting money on rolls of christmas paper when we had an abundance of beautiful newspaper in the art studio just waiting to be used.
merry christmas to you all!

so, sweet Asja over at three little cameras, just gave me 2 blog awards. im flattered.
in the tradition of the awards (or so it seems), i would like to pass the awards along to my husband jonathan perrodin, abby, suzanne, and Ariel Aberg-Riger for the inspiration they offer me on a daily basis!
thank you asja!

our recent trip to the fayetteville public library with our little family. their children’s section is breath-taking if youve never been. our girls always love it.

drawing of a home that i did a few weeks ago. sorry that my posting has slowed down. im going to blame the time of year, things will pick back up again soon! hope youre all enjoying your holidays!
by the way…the title is a bob dylan quote…

ive got you on my mind
okay, so i have been searching for inspiration alot lately, and matthew dent seemed to do it for me. thank you matthew.

wig girl
i recently stumbled upon tilman faekler‘s work. wow. its stunning. the lines, the colors, the subject matter, the paper….what more is there to say?

finally….heres my submission for IF. for some reason i have named this little lady ‘sally’, and she seems to have gotten too rambunctious at the christmas party…

i have taken on the new task of designing the graphics for my church’s service. so this is what i have been working on for the last few days…it has taken me more time to figure out what i want to make than it has for me to actually make it. theres more to see than this, but these pictures pretty much sum up my work….hopefully i will get into some sort of rythym with this and it wont take so much prep time. but with all of this said…its nice to finally have a reason to make graphic designs again, this could potentially stir up some desire to make graphics for my own personal use and artistic endeavors. we shall see.
another new paper that i recently finished. i have a book from 1968 titled something like americana encyclopedia (i think). its the root of much of my inspiration.
here are some of my favorite words of encouragement submitted to boooooooom’s free encouragement project. this is a project that they are doing in collaboration with design for mankind that is running through the end of december. they plan on doing something with these words at the end of the year, but they have yet to say what that is.
if you want to submit your words of encouragement you still have time. it can be a sneaky way to say the way you feel about someone/encourage them. ive submitted mine…but you probably cant pick it out from the rest because theyre all so moooshy!
i have been patiently waiting to put this piece online.
the paper was larger than my new scanner (from beautiful suzanne), therefore it needed to be “stitched” together in order to blend the two scans into one. so here she is….i mean, here they are.
its hard to say whether these “women” are pursuing this man, or perhaps hes pursuing them. maybe no ones pursuing anyone and they are merely standing next to one another. its all open to interpretation….but i definitly feel something is happening here more than what meets the eye.
shes wrapped in a towel.
standing on a log.
seemingly wet and sad.
two empty chairs.
and a window.
alone.
in the woods again.
{drawings}
i drew this the other day (at work again) and it turned out looking a lot like our neighbor catherine. she is one of those that is fortunate enough to age gracefully.
{drawings}
here is the first drawing that came from my previous post “inspiration in the forest…”. im hoping more come from this inspiration. this isnt exactly the direction i thought i was going to take with this, but it turned out rather interesting. hopefully more should follow.
another new paper sketch. im loving doing simple line drawings lately. seems very gratifying.
raine has two imaginary friends that she has known since she was two:. dee-dee (the nice one) and tada (pronounced Tah-dah, like the word you used to say as a kid when you finished something amazing; shes the misfit of the two imaginary girls).
the other morning, dee-dee temporarily came to life in the form of a shadow. raine drew her on our frosty glass door and we were pleasantly surprised to see the shadow ghost on the wall next to her. so when i got the camera out, she grabbed dee-dee’s imaginary shadow hand, then turned to her and said “smile dee-dee”.
what we all need on occasion.
this is my new paper pad that i have been sketching in at work. i love it.
