robert kingston

this robert kingston piece makes me happy. robert currently teaches painting and drawing at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California. though this is one of his older works {2003}, it no doubt shows off his impressive eye for color and design…

my new {old} job

this is what i did at work yesterday inside of my 2009 moleskine planner {given to me on my birthday from my lovely husband}, unfortunately though, this is not what i was paid to do…

links

my husband was up nearly all night working on a new design for my links page. its worth looking at! he is the heart and soul behind my glorious website…{thanks}

laundry…{yes it’s real}

mountain of cloth diapers and perrodin clothing…good thing these have been folded since the photo. you would think that by the size of this pile that we dont do laundry all that often, but this is the result of maybe 2-3 days of waiting. the cloth diapers make up most of the volume, but dont let that be discouraging to those of you considering their use!

collograph{y} technique

These are two of my collograph prints. These were rolled with etching ink and then ran through a press. the texture was achieved by gluing 3-dimensional circles and thread onto torn cardboard. i then gessoed the piece and covered it in polyurethane so that it could resist ink so that i could clean it off and reuse it in order to create multiple prints with multiple colors without damaging the plate.

Collograph: in simple terms it is the process of creating a textured medium to rub or print on a press in order to accomplish a mirrored reproduction of the textured piece.

We have all made collographs at some point in our lives. For example, a leaf rubbing. you know, the ones where you place a leaf, stick, penny, or other random object under your paper, then rub a crayon (or something) on top in order to get a reproduction of that object on paper. or what about those people (or maybe its you) that rub names off of head stones, sidewalks, or memorial walls? this too is a simplistic version of a collagraph print.

When done right, collographs can be beautiful…there are endless opportunities as there are countless textured items surrounding us daily that would make incredible prints.

…there was something mysterious and beautiful about this moment…

{pod}

i found this one morning while walking raine to school. im not sure what it is, or where it came from, but it was beautiful. raine was just dying to break it open…

martha rich

i love this entry in martha rich’s sketchbook…i wish i had a scanner.

kevin christy

i found kevin christy via camilla engman’s blog. im not sure if its his use of paper, his color choices, or subject matter, but something about his works snags me and sucks me in…i love its strange quality of not really knowing whats going on…love it.

inspiration in the forest…

photos from a walk in the woods…these may quite possibly show up in some later works…nature is definitely inspiring…

fall flutter-by

i found this seemingly live butterfly a few weeks ago in my backyard under our butterfly bush. it wasnt until i carefully snuck up on it and caught it that i realized it was dead. its beauty and perfectly preserved dead body seems somehow symbolic of something that i havent quite yet put my finger on. its tragic beauty brought much convenience to me as i was able to take a plethora of photographs of its body. also, raine was able to take it to school in a jar to show her classmates…thank you little flutter-by.

as a side note that has nothing to do with my flutter by butterfly, i am currently enjoying an over indulgence of the moment that i am in. mason jennings on the stereo, ezmah by my side, dasien with a bone, my husband being home, cold-wetness outside, and a single bird chirping something important to another fellow bird…mmm…fall

pascal blanchet

pascal blanchet

this is one of my favorite works by pascal blanchet…definitly inspiring! i love the color combinations and of course the {wheel} chair…

abby hughes

My friend abby created these two fine screenprints over the summer and was gracious enough to give me one of each. I love these prints. These will soon be matted and framed to hang somewhere in my house….thanks again abby!

paper {love making}

As you may have noticed, i have finally updated my gallery with new prints, papers, and such. I have always had a strange interest in paper and its textures and the relationship that develops between two {or more} pieces when they touch or meet for the first time. This may sound uncomfortably sexual for some of you…but perhaps that is where my interest derives from (who knows!). I have been dabbling with this relationship lately and this is one of my favorite works that was concieved from the process {pun intended}. click the image if you would like to see the texture more closely…its rather exciting!
