		<description>you use the word suction cup, which is pretty interesting to think about in reference to this topic of influences. i guess there are two ways to understand the metaphor. &lt;br/&gt;The first: you are the suction cup, sticking to the influences which come past you. If we continue to think about this, it might not be that bad. As a suction cup you really just stick to something until you are pulled off by something else, then end up sticking to something else for a time. Over time you will lose the stickiness to hold onto other influences and hopefully in the process you will have created a unique technique all you own.&lt;br/&gt;the second reading goes like this: The suction cups are other influences. They keep sticking to you by a very simple process. Over time your stickiness in regards to these suction cups will become less and less hopefully because you have created the antithesis of the suction cup, your own creative  technique--which may morph you into a suction cup where you influence others.</description>
